Wanted. Dead Or Alive.

Well, well, well. Apparently, albeit four months late, Microsoft has put a reward of $250,000 up for grabs for information regarding the creators of the Conficker worm. You might remember about a month ago we suffered from an attack by that particular worm, that put our business out of action for a solid week. Even now we’re still getting the odd infected PC show up.

Of course, it’s great that Microsoft is doing something about it, and as most worms of this nature are ultimately intended to provide the creators with vast sums of money, it seems rather fitting (and ironic) to think that someone else could get some cash for catching the guys who created it.

Of course, the enterprising minds among you might see an opportunity arising. This isn’t the first time that rewards have been offered to catch cyber-criminals, and it probably wont be the last. Which makes you wonder – would a couple of people out there be crazy enough to create a virus like that, simply to try cash in on potential reward money? I mean, if you created a harmless yet annoying virus, that slowed productivity in the workplace, yet caused no damage and breached no private data, how much could you be punished for it? What if two or more people created the virus, and once it had caused enough problems for Microsoft to put out reward money, the “creator” of the virus was turned in by the accomplice, and so the accomplice collected the reward money? That money could be used for bail, and the remainder split between the two criminals. I guess it depends on how harshly the perpetraitor of something like that would be punished, but you can bet your bottom dollar to a barndance that someone would think it was worth a shot.

I thought I might have been snowed in again today. Despite the sudden “down-pour” of snow late last night, things hadn’t quite got as bad as they had last week. All the slush on the roads might turn to ice by tomorrow, of course, but it’s the weekend, so who cares!

Christmas tree update – we’ve still got ours up. I had a bet on that we’d still have it up by February, and sure enough, it’s still there in all it’s twinkley glory. I’m trying to decide when the point of no return is, but I’m guessing that’ll be months away, during which time someone may well decide to put it away.

At last count, I’d had about 30 downloads of my latest mix, so thanks to everyone who had a listen. I only checked at the beginning o the week, though, so who knows if I’ve had any more. I did have someone say to me that their musical tastes are changing somewhat, thanks to the mixes I’ve been recording. That comment alone makes it all worth it, although even if nobody ever listened to them, I’d still make them.

I’m thinking of getting a vinyl turntable to add to my setup. Probably just the one for now, and it’ll probably be second hand, but it would be cool to be able to incorporate vinyl into my sets. Not that I have any vinyl, of course. (Actually, that’s a lie – I have one vinyl record that I bought many moons ago. It was a promo release of Dumonde – God Music, and contains a great 2-minute intro that wasn’t on the official release or CD single).

For the third time this week I’ll be gymming it tonight. Looking back on things, I think Christmas has really set me back somewhat. I’ve only just got back into the whole “eating healthy” thing, so in a way I feel like I’m at square one again. Having said that, I’ve still got killer guns, that have stayed killer despite me eating all the pies over Christmas. My fitness level has stayed higher than it was too, which is great. I just need to get a bit trimmer round the edges, and I’ll the godly image of studliness that I should be!

My feet are cold thanks to the snow melting on my shoes and/or jeans. Hmm…
