The Start Of Another Week

Posted by | Posted in Entertainment, The 9-To-5 Droll | Posted on 07-09-2009

It’s that time again… Monday morning. It wasn’t so bad last week, with the bank holiday and all, but today it’s back to the same old stuff. Boooo! I need more sleep, I says!

Having said that, I had quite a relaxing weekend. Now that District 9 is released here in the UK, I was able to see that on Friday night. And a good film it is too. I particularly liked the documentary style that the film had at the beginning, and the way that it slowly changed from the documentary-style shot to the standard, action film shot. It was subtle, but effective. I’d highly recommend going to see the film – it deserves it’s 8.6/10 score on IMDB.

As for Saturday and Sunday, I can’t honestly remember where it went. I can remember watching a few Big Brother episodes on Saturday (I still don’t know who won!) and, out of boredom really, I dug out my XP laptop on Sunday and had a bit of a play with Deus Ex. What a game! I’d forgotten how good that game is. I’ve played a few shooters in my time, but I have to say that that game is probably my favourite of all. There is also a second Deus Ex out, but while it’s good in terms of the continuation of the story, the gameplay, graphics, and complexity (or lack thereof) is a bit of a let-down compared to the first one.

As you can imagine for a game released in 2000, the graphics aren’t brilliant, but they’ll do. To be honest, the storyline and complexity of the way you play the game is more than good enough to make up for the graphics. In a game like that, the graphics are merely the icing on the cake. And what a damn good cake it is too. I’ve been reading recently that they’re making a third installment, and hopefully that’ll live up to the first one. I’ve been a fan of Valve Software’s Half Life since the first game came out in 1998, but in terms of storyline, nothing beats Deus Ex.
