Roll On The Weekend…

“…three lightyears, two lightyears, one lightyear… coming, ready or not!”

It’s Friday again! This week seems to have gone rather quickly, much as they all tend to do these days. I hate being constantly reminded by the elder generations that time “only gets quicker as you get older”, when even at the ripe old age of 25, time seems to passing at a blistering pace. Having said that, of course, I’m pretty sure the only thing I’d do with a few extra hours in the day is sleep more.

As a side note – for those who watch Smallville, or more to the point, for those who write scripts for Smallville, a light year is a unit of distance, and not a unit of time. Gaaarrrgh!! Twice they’ve got it wrong now, and it sounds ridiculous when a supposed geek on the show says something along the lines of:

“… and next time, don’t leave it so many light years before visiting us again…”

You’d think someone would have written in to complain by now. If people can complain in their thousands about a radio show they’ve not even heard, I’m pretty sure they can complain when the writers of a popular sci-fi show make repeated factual mistakes. Or perhaps it’s just me that would do something like that.

Anyways, the weekend is upon us! At precisely 5pm GMT, in the afternoon, pm, later on today, the weekend officially begins. I’ve not got a lot planned, although I do need to get myself some stuff, so maybe a trip out into the freezing cold for a couple of hours is warranted. Could do with a new coat, too.

I went down the gym last night, as I said I would. My legs can feel the effects today, although they’re not as bad as I thought they might be. I decided to have a play around with the leg press, because I still haven’t found a weight that’s suitable for me. I’m not the tallest, or biggest built, guy in the world, but I was quite surprised at myself. I suppose I weigh around 65Kg at the mo, and last night I started off pressing 90Kgs with the leg press, and ended up doing 130Kgs. I think two or three sets of 12 reps at 130Kgs is a good place to start. Having said that, I could try 140Kgs next time. Because I’d already done about 4 sets by the time I got to 130Kgs I might not have had as much oomph left in me as I might do if I’d just started on 130Kgs in the first place. Well see how it goes. I’ve got the weekend to recover (by which time my arm should be back to 100%) so I’ll try again then.

Apparently, there’s a new virus going round on Facebook that makes use of the messaging system. It sends a message out to people informing them that they’d look really great in some video, and links the user to a third-party site that asks to install the latest Adobe Flash Player. Of course, it isn’t really the Flash Player you’ll be installing, and before you know it, every Google, Yahoo or Ask search you perform will redirect you to dodgy websites.

To be honest, I’m not entirely sure why anyone would fall for this little trick. If some random message appeared in my Inbox telling me I’d make a great film star, and linked to a dodgy-looking site, I don’t think I’d be clicking on it. Still, some people aren’t me, and they must fall for it. If you get a message like that, report it to Facebook.

I might try and record my mix again at the weekend. I gave it a go last weekend, but at the time I didn’t think it was going particularly well, and gave up after a few repeat attempts. This time I’ll get a little practice in before recording it, so hopefully I’ll have a new set online by the end of the weekend. Also, a friend of mine randomly splurted out over lunch last week that he may possibly entertain the idea of having a New Year’s Eve party this year, which means I may even get to DJ at it. Although I’d never put anyone through 8 hours of house music if they didn’t actually like the music, I do think that an hour or two’s mixing could be quite cool. It would be my first little outting as a DJ, and would be quite good fun.

The people that would go to the party are the sort that just listen to whatever happens to be popular at the time, and so they wouldn’t appreciate a couple of hours worth of proper underground house. So I’ve decided that I’d probably play remixes of popular commercial tunes, or well known house tunes. I might throw in one or two unknown house tunes as well, if I like them enough. I’ve already begun working on a tracklist, should the party actually go ahead.

Although I doubt I’d record the set at the time, I may play the set again in my own time, and record it then, so that I can post it here. But you never know, I may record it live. It would be quite cool to get some “crowd noise” in too, but I’m not sure how much of a crowd there’ll be, or how much noise they’ll make.

Pirates advert

I get some strange ads on this site. I’ve had ads for Alcoholics Anonymous, drug rehabilitation, herbal teas, warez sites and many other weird and wonderful things that are barely mentioned on the site, if at all. This ad, however, did make me chuckle. I guess there probably was an overly generous amount of pirate talk on the page when I saw this ad, so I guess that explains where it came from. Still, you have to wonder why anyone in their right mind would want to spend money creating ads for news stories about pirates.

I’m not sure exactly what it is they think Jack Sparrow could learn from them, seeing as the advert in question doesn’t really have anything to do with the content on my site. I’m guessing they didn’t mean he could learn any business sense from them.

Also, lol.
