Quick Tech Fix

Just a quick blog post today. This week I came across some interesting news (and rumours) about Google. The first is the announcement of Google Ventures, and the second is a rumour that Google is in talks with Twitter to negotiate an aquisition deal.

Both tidbits are great news as far as I’m concerned. Firstly, Google Ventures. This is a company set up by Google (naturally) who’s sole aim is to provide funding and resources for exciting new startup companies in various fields of expertise. The amount of money you could receive from them will depend on what you’re doing, and how far along you are, but it could range from “seed funding” to “tens of millions of dollars”.

This is good news for me, because I’ve been chatting to a friend of mine about an idea I’ve had for a website. Although we’ve not looked into it much so far, I believe that it would be both useful for people to use, and able to make a lot of money if someone like Google purchased it and built it into their own business models.

The rumour about Twitter’s aquisition by Google – although that’s not exactly ground-breaking news, and probably won’t affect most users of Twitter, it means that Google are still in a good financial position and they’re still willing to purchase companies that they think can help them achieve their long-term goals. So if I ever decided to develop my idea, there’s a good chance that Google (or other companies like it) might be interested in buying it.

Seeing as I set myself the challenge of becoming a millionaire by the time I’m 30, it sounds like I should jump on the bandwagon.
