Lost Finale

“I believe in you, dude.”

So, crazy as I must be, I got up at 5am this morning to watch the series finale of Lost. And I have to say, that although I didn’t entirely understand it at first, I wasn’t disappointed.

The more I think about it, the better the ending seems to me. Like the rest of the season, the episode consisted of a story taking place on the Island, and a parallel story taking place off the Island. Sort of.

The story on the Island was as I expected. A resolution to what was going on was found, and there were a few twists and turns in amongst the action and emotional scenes. The story off the Island is what confused me slightly… and I’m still not sure I actually understand it thoroughly.

I will say this though – I understand (and like) it enough to want to buy the DVD boxset as and when it becomes available. It’s a great series, and I can’t wait to re-watch it, if only to try and piece together all of the things that they didn’t explain. And there were quite a few things left unexplained…

All in all, though, I thought it was a fitting end to the series. Fans of the show are (I’d like to think) the sort of people that can appreciate a series that gives you the answers to the big questions (both literally and philosophically) but who won’t get bogged down with unexplained little things. If you want to know how the polar bears got on the Island, what the deal is with Walt’s superpowers, how the first “protector” of the Island came to be, where the Island is, or how Charles Widmore found out about it, then you might be out of luck. But if you want to see a happy ending, with some kind of explanation as to what it’s all about, then you should watch the finale. Probably more than once, in fact, just as I plan on doing.

I might have more to say on the episode (and the series as a whole) later on, but for now, I don’t really want to give too much away. It only finished airing two hours ago, and there’ll be people who have yet to see it.
