Wanted. Dead Or Alive.

Posted by | Posted in Geek Stuff, Pirates | Posted on 13-02-2009

Well, well, well. Apparently, albeit four months late, Microsoft has put a reward of $250,000 up for grabs for information regarding the creators of the Conficker worm. You might remember about a month ago we suffered from an attack by that particular worm, that put our business out of action for a solid week. Even now we’re still getting the odd infected PC show up.

Joining The First-Time Buyer’s Club

Posted by | Posted in Geek Stuff, Personal Shizzle | Posted on 15-01-2009

Well, I went and saw the mortgage advisor yesterday, and as expected he went through a few bits and pieces with me about the different types of mortgage available and whatnot. Afterwards, he set me some “homework” to do between now and the next time I see him.

No Luck

Posted by | Posted in Geek Stuff, Technology | Posted on 13-01-2009

“It’s worse than that – he’s dead, Jim!”

Well, after (briefly) trying to sort out my networking issues yesterday, I had no luck whatsoever. The wireless internet dongle I’m currently using is fine, and so I’m thinking that it must just be an issue with the network adapter itself. The router clearly works, as does my PC in general (when it’s got working hardware, that is) and so today I decided to buy myself a new network card.

I Hate Computers

Posted by | Posted in Geek Stuff, Technology | Posted on 12-01-2009

Yesterday I had the fantastic idea of installing and trying the latest version of Windws – Windows 7. The beta version had been leaked onto the net a couple of weeks ago, but Microsoft officially released it on 9th January. As some of you may be aware, there was such an overwhleming demand for it that it actually crashed the Microsoft servers that were serving the files.

Yarrr She Blows!!

Posted by | Posted in Geek Stuff, The 9-To-5 Droll | Posted on 08-01-2009

As is often the case, I came into work this morning to be greeted with the usual people shuffling about and mumbling under their breath. It’s usual practice for computer technicians really, but this time they had a real issue to mumble about.

There’s something wrong with IE, you say?

Posted by | Posted in Geek Stuff | Posted on 16-12-2008

Although I actually read about this yesterday, I couldn’t be arsed to post about it after such a long-winded entry yesterday morning. It seems that yet another Internet Explorer vulnerability has found it’s way onto the mainstream hacking sites, and even though Microsoft is aware of the issue, they’re not really doing anything about it just yet. Which means the nasty little hacker people have got about a month until M$ coughs up a patch, all the while they can do their darndest to infect as many sites as possible.

Done My Arm In

Posted by | Posted in Geek Stuff, Gym, Tunes | Posted on 02-12-2008

Excellent use of the English language, there.

I think I overdid it at the gym last night. Although I was only there for 45 minutes, I’ve managed to pull a ligament (or a tendon, or whatever you call them) in my left arm, so now I’m unable to straighten my arm out fully. I guess I’ll just have to keep it active in the hopes that it doesn’t seize up completely, which can be difficult when you’re in a typical 9-to-5 office job. It always seems to be that particular tendon that I pull too. There must be something in my left arm that’s not quite as strong as it is in my right, as I don’t seem to have the same trouble in my right arm.

Consequences Of Technology

Posted by | Posted in Geek Stuff, Society | Posted on 12-11-2008

“I’m sorry, I can’t do that Dave…”

Last night I was thinking about how great modern technology is, and how brilliant it is that all sorts of devices, from mobile phones to laptops to cameras, can all be connected together wirelessly. How much easier does it make things, when you have a bluetooth mobile and bluetooth laptop? It’s certainly easy to transfer files, as well as sync your various laptop apps to your mobile apps. But before we all get caught up with how good it is to be connected to everything all of the time, I’d like to air my veiws about the grim future that I see unfolding before our very eyes.

Gripe Of The Week

Posted by | Posted in Geek Stuff | Posted on 06-11-2008

This week’s ball-grabbing annoyance has to be ISP’s, or Internet Service Providers. As I’m sure you’re already aware, what with you clearly being on the internet and all, an ISP is a company that provides your home or business with access to the internet. Recently, we’ve been having “trouble” with ours.

The IT World: Over-Complicating Things

Posted by | Posted in Finance, Geek Stuff | Posted on 28-10-2008

You tube my space, and I’ll Google your Yahoo.

On reading my usual morning emails and geeky articles from various sources, I came across a term that seems to be making an appearence more and more often in the IT world – Cloud Computing. It’s something that seems to have popped up in the last few months, and now everyone wants in on it.
