At Long Last

Posted by | Posted in Random | Posted on 04-02-2009

It feels like ages since I last posted, even though it’s only been a few days I think. Anyways, on with the show!

Despite it being Wednesday, this is actually my first day at work this week. In case you’ve had your head buried in sand for the last few days, we’ve seen a massive amount of snowfall since the weekend, and on Monday around 6.5 million people couldn’t get into work. I was one of them, living in a small village with poor country roads as I do, and so the ice and snow had only melted enough by this morning such that today was the first day I could actually make it in.

And what a time I had. Including the weekend, I hadn’t even bothered to get dressed for four continuous days, excluding the hour or so I spent outside making a snowman. Which reminds me, check out this beauty:

Freddie The Snowman

Within two hours of making him, however, some little brats smashed him down. It’s to be expected I suppose, but I planned revenge by preparing to smash their snowman down right in front of them. Unfortunately, what with the youngsters of today being unimaginitive and uncreative where TV has ruined their brains, they didn’t even bother to make their own snowman, and so I had nothing to take revenge on. Ah well.

Still, I had a good laugh and quite a relaxing time of it. Whcih means, of course, that I haven’t been to the gym since Friday, so I’ll be heading down their after work. Speaking of work, I’m here now, and I’ve been working my bollards off all day. Work in my profession (or perhaps just my particular job) is rather sporadic, meaning that we sometimes have a lot on, and sometimes we don’t. At the moment, we do, and the couple of days of ‘forced holiday’ that I had to take this week has meant that I’m a little behind. Annoyingly, we still have to update our timesheets, telling our line managers exactly what we’ve been doing. That’s great when there’s work to be done, but what do we do when their isn’t?

It’s clearly a device that’ll be used to justify people’s jobs (or not, as the case may be) and so it’s a little disconcerting. Still, I’m secretly of the belief that I’m pretty secure in my job (well, as secure as you can be) and so it’s not too worrying.

Someone said to me the other day that they wanted me to mix a classic trance set, just to “get my take on the genre”. I agreed, and I’ve whipped a tracklisting together and plan to record it this week (possibly even tonight). So I might get round to recording a good ol’ trance set after all. I have to say, though, that even though I used to play the exact same songs all the time a few years ago, I’m rather rubbish at mixing them together now. I guess there really is a difference in mixing styles when you mix differnet genres of music. Anywho’s, I’ll see how it goes tonight, assuming I can be arsed after watching a double bill of Scrubs and an episode of 24 and Heroes.
