A Trip To Hospital

“If I could choose between being with small group of people, and a bunch of people, I’d choose my cat.”

I heard yesterday that my Dad is to go into hospital this morning to undergo an angioplasty. That’s basically where they stick a balloon into an artery and inflate it to stop it from collapsing. Sounds drastic (and I guess it would be if it happened) but apparently it’s a fairly routine procedure and should go without a hitch. Here’s hoping!

It kind of makes you appreciate the marvels of modern medicine when something like that needs to happen. (Also, the first in the new series of Ricky Gervais podcasts is about medicine.)

Speaking of Ricky Gervaid podcasts – why on Earth does he not host the files on his own web server? I can understand using iTunes to serve the podcast, as it’s very popular and has an entire section dedicated to podcasts, but he also uses Audible to allow you to purchase and download them. I wouldn’t mind, except I’d never heard of Audible before, and on buying the first three podcasts from the site, I realised how much I didn’t like it. Firstly, you have to download and install their little application to be able to download the podcasts. Then you’re told that you need to enter your password in order to actually listen to them, but as it turns out, you dont. Thirdly, the downloaded podcasts are not in MP3 format (they’re in some random other format that even Adobe Soundbooth had trouble opening). And lastly, when burning the podcasts to CD to listen to them in the car, the 50-minute podcasts are split into tracks – each one being 7:34 in length, which bears no relation to the chapters in the podcast itself.

Most annoying, I have to say. It almost made me go for iTunes, but my hatred for the love that people have for that company stopped me. I’d like to take this opportunity to point out that the only real difference between the iPod Touch and the iPhone is the fact that one makes phone calls, and one doesn’t. I’m sure I’ve said it before, but in my eyes, they should simply add the camera and phone parts to the iPod Touch, and have just one device. Still, they wouldn’t be able to make as much money that way!
