A Random Few Days

“I’d do it again, though…”

I know I haven’t blogged much during the last week or so, but (believe it or not) I’ve actually been busy at work. We’ve got a few things going on at the moment, which in this economic climate is a valued treasure, but it means that I’ve not been able to post much lately. Which is just as well really, as I’ve not really got a lot to mention.

One of the local councils had some employees of theirs win the National Lottery at the weekend. I believe that 21 council workers won around £2.2million between them, so that equates to about £100,000 (or $150,000 for you yanks) which I certainly wouldn’t turn my nose up at. I’ve only played the lottery once or twice myself, and the last time I won £10. There was quite a look of shock upon the face of the cashier at the local shop when I went round to collect my winnings – I don’t suppose for an instant that they thought I’d win anything after choosing the numbers “1, 2, 3, 4, 5and 6”.

Speaking of gambling, I was thinking the other day how much money I could have won had I placed bets on this year’s Big Brother evictions. It’s certainly something I’ll be doing next year, as I’ll no doubt be watching the show again (assume it’s on, of course). I guessed every eviction correctly this year, regardless of the bookie’s odds, and so I could have made a nice tidy profit. I was slightly out with the final 6 results though. And by ‘slightly’, I mean ‘completely’.

I believe I’ve cobbled together a new tracklist for my next set, which I’m eagerly looking forward to mixing. I know I originally said that I was going to mix a progressive trance set, but changed my mind some time later, but I’ve now changed it back, and I hope to be creating a new prog trance mix again. I’ll do an old-school trance set as well at some point, but I wanted to create a prog trance set first. Depending on the total length of the set, I may even use it as a promo CD in order to promote myself as a DJ. I’d have to get some feedback on the set first, but it’s worth a shot.

So far the tracks come to a total of one hour 45 minutes, meaning that I’ll have to shave 25 minutes off of the time in order to get it down to a standard 80-minute CD. 25 minutes out of one hour 45 is a lot of time to lose, even if you’re mixing your tunes using very long transitions. I may cut one song out altogether, which may save me a good 10 minutes, but I’d rather not. A bit of experimentation is required I think. Hopefully I’ll be good to go this weekend, but after last weekend, who knows what I’ll be up to.

Which reminds me – last weekend was a random one to say the least. After trundling off to the nearest city to do a bit of quick Christmas shopping with a mate (and by ‘Christmas shopping’ I mean ‘shopping for myself’) we ended up randomly meeting with friends of said mate that he knew from uni (none of whom I knew, though) and before we knew it, we were rocking out in some small, dingy rock club at 4am. I’d do it again though, despite the poor taste in music. Then again, people say the same thing about me.
